• 1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1
Avalon Environmental Consultants (Avalon) conducted a Phase II Groundwater
Assessment (Phase II GWA) at the request of Mr Kashmar Singh and Mr Dalwinder
Dhoot, owners of Joes Truck Plaza The assessment was performed at the Joes Truck
Plaza located at 15600 South Harlan Road, Lathrop, County of San Joaquin, California,
in February of 2000
On February 11, 2000, six groundwater monitoring wells were installed on the subject
property The six wells were placed in the two former underground tank pit locations
and at the corners of the subject property in order to determine the groundwater
gradient direction and potential for offsite migration As an earlier geoprobe
investigation performed by Avalon on December 17, 1998, had assessed the soils on
the subject property, soil samples were not collected or analyzed as part of this
investigation Groundwater samples were collected from the six wells and analyzed
for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX), Lead scavengers
(1,2-DCA and EDB), and Oxygenates including Ethanol and Methanol
Detections of Methyl-t-butyl-ether (MTBE) were identified in groundwater samples
collected in wells located in the northwestern portion of the subject property north of
the former tank farm area Four of the six groundwater monitoring wells on the subject
property detected MTBE The highest detection of MTBE encountered is 1,800 ppb
found in groundwater monitoring well MW-2 located in the extreme northern
boundary of the subject property The second highest detection was in MW-1, located
in the former tank farm excavation The levels of MTBE found in MW-1 was 240 ppb
Additionally, detections of benzene (3 1 ppb), Ethylbenzene (0 51 ppb), Xylene (11 0
ppb), Diesel (120 ppb), Gasoline (410 ppb), TAME (1 6 ppb) and Tert-Butanol 07 ppb)
were made in MW-1 Based upon groundwater measurement taken at the subject
property on February 24, 2000 the groundwater gradient is to the east
2.0 INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
This report presents the results of the Phase II Groundwater Assessment (Phase II GWA)
conducted by Avalon Environmental Consultants (Avalon)at 15600 South Harlan Road,
in Lathrop, California (Figure 1, Site Location Map, Appendix 1)
1
The subject property is currently a gasoline service station providing service for large
diesel tractor trailer trucks with a separate area providing service to automobiles The
subject property consists of square lot, approximately 300 feet by 300 feet with a
rectangular mini mart and two dispenser areas One of the dispenser areas is intended
for automobile use and the other is intended for large truck re-fueling The
AuAvalon Environmental Consultants 9627-001-2
k Joes Truck Plaza 15600 South Harlan Road
March 20, 2000 1 Lathrop, California
1
