26 February 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0152
Samples were placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to
McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI) in Pacheco, California and analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH-g)and volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene
and xylenes: BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015 and 8020, respectively.
3.2. EXCAVATION BACKFILLING
On 15 November 1995, the excavation was backfilled with clean fill material. The excavation was
tire-compacted using a loader. Backfill material was provided by Conti Materials of Stockton,
California. The loader and operator were provided by Bob Evans Trucking of Manteca, California.
Soil determined to be"clean" during excavation (the upper five-feet of excavated soil) was also used
to backfill the excavation.
3.3. SOIL PROBING
On 13 and 14 December 1995, four soil probings (PI through P4) were advanced near the former
UST area. Each probing was advanced to a depth of 40 feet bsg, using AGE's van-mounted
Geoprobe 5400 probing unit and 1.125-inch diameter probe rods. Probing locations are depicted on
Figure 2.
Discrete soil samples were collected from each soil probe boring at five-foot intervals, beginning at
a depth of ten feet bsg, using a Geoprobe soil sampler assembly loaded with four pre-cleaned 1.125-
- inch by 6-inch brass sleeves. Upon retrieval, the ends of the second brass sleeve were covered with
Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve was labeled with the boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials. Analytical results are summarized in Table 3.
Samples were placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to
Castle Analytical Laboratory(CAL) in Winton, California and analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in
accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m and 8020, respectively.
_ During drilling activities, sample duplicates were described on boring logs using the Unified Soil
Classification System(USCS)and monitored for the presence of organic vapors using a PID. Boring
Logs are included in Appendix A.
3.4. STOCKPILE SOIL SAMPLING
On 16 February 1996, one composite soil sample was collected from approximately 22 cubic yards
of stockpiled soil generated from the former gasoline UST excavation in September 1995.
