30 October 1997
AGE-NC Project No, 96-0217
SCOPE OF WORK
Based upon the analytical results of samples collected during the previous-investigation of the site
hydrocarbon-impacted soil and ground water was not fully defined at the site.
AGE proposes to install a continuos core soil boring in the former UST excavation to a minimal
depth of 15 feet bsg and deeper if field indications show contaminated soil at greater depths. Discrete
water samples will be collected from the borings at significant lithology changes at the site. Three
soil borings will be established west of the building on the property; in the center of Grant Line
Road; in the sidewalk east of the site for soil and water sampling. Proposed soil boring locations are
illustrated in Figure 2.
AGE recommends one additional monitoring well will be required to be installed north of the site
in a down gradient direction. The well construction will be similar to previously established wells
on the site. The well will be located in the western side walk of the City of Tracy right-of-way on
Holly Drive. Tentatively, a well should be installed approximately 200 feet north of the northern
property line, in the City right-of-way. if a different location for the ground water monitoring well
is required, the new location will be submitted for PHS-EHD concurrence.
The soil borings will be advanced in the same manner described in the Preliminary Site Assessment
Work Plan dated 06 May 1996, submitted and approved by your office. Soil boring sampling will
be conducted using a California split-spoon sampler and/or brass sleeves or a continuos core five-
foot core barrel. One monitoring well will be installed in accordance with previously submitted work
plan. Encroachment permits for access into the City right-of-way will be provided for your offices
revieNv.
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and water samples will be analyzed with the concurrence of PHS-EHD for total
petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), volatile aromatic compounds (benzene,
toluene, ethyl-benzene and total xylenes: BTE&X) and methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and other
oxygenated fuel additives tertiary butyl alcohol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(DIPS),ethyl tertiary butyl
ether(ETBE)and tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME)in accordance with EPA methods 8015m/5030
and 8020/602 and 8260. Selected soil samples may also be analyzed for intrinsic permeability,
moisture content, porosity and total organic carbon (TOC) in accordance with the appropriate EPA
or ASTM methods.
Laboratory reports of soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report.
