A limited amount of money has been allocated
by the County for investigation of their contaminated UST sites so little progress towards
closure has occurred. EHD provides the following status of each site and has scheduled
a meeting at our office for November 1, 2005, to discuss directives for the sites.
1810 E. HAZELTON, STOCKTON
This is considered a high priority site. The gasoline and MTBE contamination in
groundwater has not been defined. Currently, seven groundwater monitoring wells have
been installed onsite. The lateral extent of the shallow groundwater contamination is
basically defined, but the vertical extent has not been investigated. Remediation wells
have been installed and remediation testing is to be conducted. In September 2003
there was .5 feet of free product documented in MW-1. The free product in MW 1 has
been removed by a passive skimmer reducing the free product to a sheen on the water.
145 S. SUTTER STREET, STOCKTON
The issue of the rising groundwater elevation, potentially releasing vadose zone
benzene contamination to the groundwater, and the potential for the benzene to migrate
into the building air was addressed by a risk assessment that was submitted to EHD in
December 2001. The finding was that the risk level for people inside the Human
Services Agency building from migrating benzene vapors was acceptable. Groundwater
monitoring and sampling is ongoing; the vertical extent of the groundwater contamination
in the source area has not been defined. The Corrective Action Plan submitted in
January 1998 recommended Intrinsic Remediation with Monitoring as the appropriate
corrective action for this site. Reviews of the plan were to be conducted at five year
intervals.
503 E. TENTH STREET, TRACY
The contamination at this site appears to be defined. A feasibility study has not been
performed. Monitoring and sampling of the groundwater has not been conducted since
February 1999.
