FACILITY,
RIPON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Regional Water Board)
staff has reviewed the quarterly chemical analyses results on a water sample collected for Nestle
USA Inc. (Nestle) from a water supply well for the Ripon public school located at 304 North
Acacia Avenue, Ripon, California.
The laboratory analyses for volatile organic compounds in the water sample collected from the
school's drinking water supply well (RPS-1) on July 20, 2006, detected trichloroethene (TCE) at a
concentration of 0.20 micrograms per liter (µg/Q. Also, the laboratory analysis detected cis-1,2-
dichloroethene (cis-1,2-DCE) at a concentration of 0.34 µg/L.
Although concentrations are below public health goals and maximum contaminant levels, the
detections may indicate the arrival in the intermediate aquifer zone of the volatile organic
compound plume emanating from the former Nestle facility at Industrial Avenue. As you know,
TCE and cis-1,2-DCE are constituents of concern in the plume. Currently, Nestle samples RPS-
1 quarterly. Nestle should begin sampling the well on a monthly basis and providing monthly
reports as soon as the laboratory results are available.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 464-4675, or by email at
jbrownell@waterboard s.ca
James R.
