Ms. Joachim - 5 _
22 June 2012
Additional Directives
6. Nestle must install additional monitoring wells to characterize the COC plumes on and near
the Nestle facility in the B-/Upper A-Zone at each of the following locations: the M-12
monitoring well nest, the M-16 nest, the M-10 nest, and near soil boring CPT-30.
7. Nestle must install additional monitoring wells to characterize the COC plumes on and near
the Nestle facility in the Lower A/shallow C-Zone at each of the following locations: the M-16
monitoring well nest and near soil boring CPT-30.
8. Nestle must continue to operate groundwater extraction wells EI-1, EU-3 and EU-4; a six-
month shutdown test is not warranted at this time. In fact, Nestle must evaluate remedies
including groundwater extraction and treatment for COCs in groundwater west and
northwest of the facility, beyond the capture zones of these wells. The evaluation must
include remedies for cleanup of COCs in the B- and Upper A-Zones, and the Lower A- and
shallow C-Zones.
9. Nestle must evaluate the impact to the Lower Aquifer(D-Zone) by water supply well
conduits. The evaluation must characterize the extent of D-Zone impact, and attempt to
quantify the mass of TCE and its breakdown products that migrated in this way.
If you have any questions, please contact Jim Brownell at (916) 464-4675, or by email at
jbrownell@waterboards.ca.gov.
.40_
JAMES R. BROWNELL, P.G.
Engineering Geologist
Site Cleanup Section
Enclosure: Distribution List
