Nestle USA, Inc., Ripon, California August 11, 2009
Second Quarter 2009 Site Status Report
water samples, and laboratory analysis of COCs. Exceptions to the reporting
requirements or deviations from information listed in the MRP are noted below.
oo This report refers to some well numbers differently than the well designations
contained in the MRP. The designations in this report are based on analysis
of geological information. The well designations listed below are consistent
with Nestle's MRP revision request dated May, 2007.
o M-28B/A(A) in the MRP is labeled as M-28A in this report,
o M-28A(A/C) in the MRP is labeled as M-28C in this report, and
o M-27A/C in the MRP is labeled as M-27C in this report.
oo City wells MW-4 and MW-6 and Neenah Paper Company production wells
PW-6, PW-7 and PW-8 were not gauged because those wells lack access
ports necessary for water level sounders used for measuring water levels.
oo Several private well owners have refused to provide access for monthly
sampling. Please refer to Table 5 for additional information.
3.2 EXTRACTION AND TREATMENT SYSTEMS OPERATION AND
MAINTENANCE
ECM completed the following activities at the domestic wellhead and groundwater
extraction and treatment systems during the Second quarter of 2009:
oo ECM performed the operation and maintenance (O&M) for two domestic
wells with wellhead carbon treatment systems at 5725 Hall Road and 7501
Kiernan Avenue. The systems were sampled twice per month for COCs
using EPA method 524.2 and sampled once per month for nitrate. The
system at 7501 Kiernan Avenue is also sampled quarterly for chloride and
hardness. ECM submits the monthly performance monitoring reports
containing the treatment system influent, mid point and effluent samples
results to the RWQCB via e-mail on or before the 28th of each following
month. Table 6.2 summarizes the analytical results for the months from
January through June 2009. Copies of the monthly performance monitoring
reports are presented in Appendix C.
oo ECM performed weekly O&M checks for the groundwater extraction and
treatment system for wells EU-3 and EU-4 at the On-Site extraction and
treatment system (Industrial Avenue) and for wells E-2 and E-6 at the Off-Site
extraction and treatment system (Stockton Avenue).
oo The Off-Site extraction and treatment system was down for just over 1 hour
on June 19 for planned maintenance.
oo The Off-Site extraction and treatment system was down from June 23
through June 25 and part of June 26 for a total of 78.5 hours for a planned
cleaning of the air stripper tower.
oo The Off-Site treatment system was 96.25% operational during the Second
quarter of 2009.
5
