VJN
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES P.4 .
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY =: Z
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Ernest M. Fujimoto, M.D., M.P.H., Acting Health Officer `-
445 N. San Joaquin Street • P. O. Box 388 • Stockton, CA 95201-0388
209/468-3420
C (0
JERYL FRY
MOHR FRY RANCHES
12609 N WEST LANE
LODI CA 95240 WED JUN 2 21995
RE: MOHR-FRY RANCHES SITE CODE: PROO1152
950 INDUSTRIAL
STOCKTON CA 95206
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the June 2, 1995 "Workplan for Soil Sampling at Former Acetone Tank Area"
prepared by Cypress Environmental on behalf of Universal Rundle Corporation for the above
referenced site.
The workplan states that due to uncertainties in the actual depth of the former tank pits, samples
for chemical analysis will be collected approximately 5 feet below the reported excavation
depths. A review of the tank removal inspection report by PHS/EHD staff indicates that the
sample depth in tank 1 was 15 feet for sample 1W, 15.5 feet for sample 1E and 2.5 feet for the
pipeline sample. Sample depth in tank 2 was 17 feet for both the North and the South sample.
Figure 2 of the workplan shows the relative locations of the two proposed borings and the
location of the former waste acetone tank. The text of the workplan says CE-1 will be drilled
near the east end of former product Tank 1 and CE-2 will be drilled near the north end of
former waste acetone Tank 2. PHS/EHD concurs that these proposed locations will resolve the
question of contamination located near T1-E taken July 18, 1989 and T1-N taken December 20,
1989.
A review of the tank removal results by PHS/EHD staff indicates that contamination is also
present at the west end of former product Tank 1 as indicated by the results of the analysis of
T1-W taken July 19, 1989 and the pipeline between the former dispenser and the former fill end
of Tank 1 as indicated by the results of the analysis of P1 taken July 19, 1989. PHS/EHD staff
has determined that these areas are not addressed in this workplan.
The workplan was discussed during the meeting of June 14, 1995 by all parties involved. The
agreed upon changes to the workplan are two additional borings CE-3 and CE-4 and the
sampling depths in all the borings. CE-3 is to provide confirmatory analysis of the former
pipeline area. One sample is to be taken from a depth of 3.0-3.5 feet below grade. CE-4 is to
provide confirmatory analysis of the former west end of the product acetone tank. The samples
are to be obtained from a depth of 17 and 22 feet. CE-1 is to be sampled at 17 and 22 feet.
Boring CE-2 is to be sampled from 20 and 25 feet.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
