Box 388 • Stockton, CA 95201-0388
(209) 468-3420
MARIAN FRY
C/O JERYL FRY
12609 WEST LANE
LODI CA 95240 L
RE: Mohr-Fry Ranches SITE CODE: 1152
950 Industrial Drive
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the Phase III Remedial Excavation dated October 25, 1994 which was received by this
office on October 26, 1994 submitted by WHF Environmental and Engineering Group for the
above referenced site.
The workplan describes excavations at three locations on the site. The area containing the former
3 nested 550 gallon Fuel Oil tanks where B-1 is currently located, the area containing the former
10,000 gallon Diesel fuel tank where B-2 is currently located and the former surface tank site
where MW-3 is currently located.
The workplan indicates that field screening will be conducted with a PID to minimize the
dimensions of the excavations. Excavation in the area of B-1 may extend beneath the building.
Approximately 1650 cubic yards of soil is anticipated to be removed. This soil will be stockpiled
on site for bioremediation and then returned to the excavations upon determination that
contamination in the stockpile is below detection limits. PHS/EHD requires that one sample for
every 25 cubic yards of stockpile be submitted for laboratory analysis, to determine if
bioremediation has been effective, prior to returning the stockpile to the excavations at the site.
The workplan states that quarterly groundwater monitoring will be conducted for a period of one
year to insure that no remaining concentrations of petroleum compounds in the soil reach
groundwater.
PHS/EHD recommends quarterly sampling to continue until the site is in the closure phase of
the investigation. PHS/EHD is aware that results of groundwater sampling from 3/31/93,
3/11/94, and 8/4/94 are non detect for BTEX and TPH-d. This site does pose a threat to
groundwater based upon the presence of Xylene at a depth of 50 feet which was discovered
during the installation of MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3. Depth to water in 1983 in this area was
approximately 30 feet. Therefore this contamination is below high water. Current depth to water
is approximately 50 feet.
The workplan states that water samples will be analyzed by a State of California licensed
A Di%iaiun of San Joaquin Counh Health Care Senice.
