E.
Schwan's Sales Enterprises, Inc.
3019 Scanlan Avenue
Salina, Kansas 67401
Subject: Groundwater Monitoring Well Rehabilitation
Manteca Depot, San Joaquin County, California
Dear Mr. Ascher:
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) has completed the rehabilitation of groundwater
monitoring wells at the Manteca Depot, 575 Industrial Park Drive, Manteca, San Joaquin County,
California. The scope of work for this project was originally described in the Geomatrix
10 February 1994 letter to Schwan's Sales Enterprises, Inc. (Schwan's). In addition, Geomatrix
also monitored the groundwater for the presence of floating hydrocarbons at the request of
Schwan's, in response to a request by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division.
This letter summarizes the results of our work.
BACKGROUND
Three groundwater monitoring wells were installed at the Manteca Depot (Figure 1) in 1991 by
Treadwell & Rollo, Inc. for the previous property owner. Schwan's purchased the property in
June 1993 and was informed of continuing groundwater monitoring requirements by the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Division. At the request of Schwan's, the wells were
visually inspected by Geomatrix during a 9 February 1994 site visit. At that time, the three
monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3) were observed to have minor construction
deficiencies (i.e. missing locks, damaged well casing) that could be rehabilitated for continued
monitoring well service. Since Schwan's planned to regrade portions of the Manteca Depot to suit
the needs of vehicle traffic, it was concluded that the wells should be completed flush with the
anticipated ground surface. Geomatrix was retained to rehabilitate the monitoring wells and re-
construct the well heads in underground vaults.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
Engineers,Geologists,and Environmental Scientists /
