kn KLEINFELDER
U
2 BACKGROUND
I
The site is located at 500 Hospital Road in French Camp, California (Plate 1). Three
approximately 12,000-gallon above ground fuel oil storage tanks previously existed on site
(Plate 2). The tanks were placed in a concrete bermed area approximately 3 feet below the
ground surface. A corrugated steel roof covered the tanks and concrete containment area.
The tanks were removed in July of 1993.
r On June 25, 1993, Kleinfelder collected three sail samples from the west end of the three
aboveground fuel oil storage tanks. Oil staining and ponded oil were observed on the surface
of the soil. Soil discoloration and organic vapor readings at the west end of the southern and
middle tanks appeared to decrease by a depth of 4 feet. At the west end of the northern tank,
soil discoloration and organic vapor readings were observed at a depth of 4.5 feet.
a Based on the sampling performed by Kleinfelder, the San Joaquin County Department of
J
Capitol Projects requested scope of work to assess the lateral and vertical extent of fuel oil in
P 1 a Pe
the soil. A copy of the Kleinfelder proposal dated August 23, 1993 was submitted to the San
Joaquin County Public Heath Services, Environmental Division (SJCEHD) as a work plan for
approval and to obtain drilling permits.
I I
r
Ell
r
t I
t
i
24-220152-EOO/GRI-01(1993) Page 2 of 7 October 27, 1993
Copyright 1993 Kleinfelder, Inc.
r
