k" KLEI N FELDER Y
I P ! 2: I/2 1r
lei rlls i ! 1
April 4, 1994
File: 24-220152-G00 { 1
Mr. Steve Keeter
San Joaquin County
Department of Capital Projects
Courthouse, Room 678
222 East Weber Avenue
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Sampling and Subsequent Chemical Analysis
South Side Existing Central Plant
San Joaquin County General Hospital
French Camp, California
Dear Mr. Keeler:
Attached are the results of laboratory analysis for soil samples collected from an excavation
bottom and tunnel tailings on March 24, 1994 at San Joaquin County General Hospital in
French Camp, California. Kleinfelder was retained to collect and analyze soil samples on a
rush turn-around basis. The area of concern, was an excavation 22 1/2 feet south and
11 1/2 feet west of the northwest corner of the existing Family Practice Building (south of the
existing Central Plant) and tunnel tailings generated from beneath the north end of the existing
Family Practice Building.
Field Activities
On March 24, 1994, a Kleinfelder geologist was on-site due to oily soil encountered during
excavation for shoring south of the existing Central Plant. Soil sample #1 - 70729 was
collected at a depth of 7.5 feet below grade, above a wood bottom. Additionally, soil sample
#2 - 70730 was later collected from tunnel tailings obtained from beneath the north end of the
Family Practice Building. Mr. Russ Konig of O'Brien-Kreitzberg & Associates, Inc. was
present during the sampling. The samples were placed in an ice cooler and transported
immediately to Roy F. Weston, Inc., Stockton Laboratory for analysis.
Analytical Results
Both soil samples were analyzed for the presence and concentration of semi-volatile organics
by EPA Method 8240, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to gasoline by EPA
Method 8015M/LUFT, and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to diesel by EPA
Method 8015M/LUFT.
The sample obtained from the excavation bottom (Sample #1 - 70729) contained concentrations
of 11,000 mg/kg TPH-Diesel, 430 mg/kg TPH-Gasoline, and trace levels of some semi-
volatile compounds. The sample obtained from the tunnel tailings (Sample #2 - 70730)
24-220152-GOO/CR38-11 (1994) Page 1 of 2 April 4, 1994
Copyright 1994 Kteinfetder, inc.
KI FI\FEI DER .3077 Pito Cir(ic, S,icramentu, CA ')_)827 (`1ib) 160-1701
