Mass of Fuel Oil in Stockpile: <br /> 1. Confirmation samples indicate that the bulk of the contaminated soil has been removed. The <br /> sidewall samples were non-detect indicating the lateral extent of contamination. The excavation <br /> bottom sample was 51 mg/kg, which is a significant reduction from the 11,000 mg/kg detected in <br /> Boring B-4. BTEX contaminants were not detected in the previous boring investigation and are <br /> not a concern at the site. <br /> Given the results of the initial boring assessment which indicated that contamination was not <br /> present beyond a depth of ll feet; the limited volume of soil removed from the excavation; the <br /> significant reduction of TPH concentrations; the lack of BTEX contamination; and a depth to <br /> groundwater of 30 to 35 feet, Kleinfelder does not recommend additional assessment or additional <br /> excavation at this time. <br /> An estimate of the fuel oil mass in the soil indicated that 1.67 pounds of fuel oil are present in the <br /> excavated soil spread in the open field/aeration area. For the soil remaining in the excavation, <br /> Kleinfelder estimates that there are 0.730 pounds of hydrocarbons are present from 11 to 15 feet <br /> below the ground surface. Again, Boring B-4 indicated that petroleum hydrocarbons were not <br /> present in the soil beneath a depth of 11 feet. <br /> A copy of this report should be submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Division for their review and approval prior to proceeding with further <br /> construction or activities at the site. <br /> LIMITATIONS <br /> Kleinfelder performed this investigation in accordance with generally accepted standards of care <br /> which exist in Northern California at this time. Conclusions in this report are based on the <br /> analytical results of six soil samples collected from the excavation and stockpile. It should be <br /> recognized that definition and evaluation of geologic conditions is a difficult and inexact art. <br /> Judgments leading to conclusions and recommendations are generally made with incomplete <br /> knowledge of the subsurface conditions present.
