S _
KLEINFELDER
i
I
CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND ASSUMPTIONS
This proposal will be adequate to obtain authorization from SJCEHD. If a work plan is
necessary, additional charge for work plan preparation will be incurred.
► Adequate work space and access will be provided! Kleinfelder will attempt to advance
soil borings at the proposed locations. If the drilling equipment cannot be positioned,
alternative drilling locations or sampling methods 'should be investigated.
'4
► The borings are to be drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with hollow-stem
augers: If concrete cutting is required, additional costs may be incurred. Proposal is
based on two days of drilling.
Soil generated during the drilling and sampling will be the responsibility of San Joaquin
County. Soil cuttings will be wrapped in plastic and left on site. Sampling and
analysis of the stockpiled soil may be necessary prior to disposal. Disposal options for
the soil can be assessed once analytical results have been received. Kleinfelder can
assist San Joaquin County with the disposal of soil if necessary.
F
I. This proposal is based on the presumption that San Joaquin County will clearly mark
the location of tanks, existing structures, underground utilities and services. San
Joaquin County should be aware that penetrating!Ithe site's surface is inherently risky.
It is impossible to determine with certainty the precise location of all structures which
may be buried in the ground. Kleinfelder's fee is not adequate to compensate for both
the performance of the services and the assu'inption of risk of damage to such
structures. Disruption of utilities or damage tp underground structures will be the
responsibility of San Joaquin County. Services rendered by Kleinfelder to repair them
will be billed at cost. Underground Services Alert (USA) at 1-500-642-2444 provides
a partial location service free of charge for major utility lines. Kleinfelder can make
contact with USA for a site visit, if requested.
I
LIMITATIONS
Kleinfelder offers various levels of investigative and engineering services to suit the varying
needs of different clients. Although risk can never be eliminated, more detailed and extensive
investigations.yield more information, which may help, understand and manage the level of
risk. Since detailed investigation and analysis involves greater expense, our clients participate
in determining levels of service which provide adequate information for their purposes at
acceptable levels of risk. Acceptance of this proposal will indicate that San Joaquin County
has reviewed the scope of work and determined that San Joaquin County does not need or want
a greater level of service than will be provided. Any 'exceptions should be noted and may
result in higher fees.
Regulations and professional standards applicable to Kleinfelder's services are continually
evolving. Techniques are, by necessity, often newt and relatively untried. Different
professionals may reasonably adopt different approaches` to similar problems. Therefore, no
warranty or guarantee, expressed or implied, will be included in Kleinfelder's scope of
service.
During the course of the performance of Kleinfelder's services, hazardous materials may be
discovered. Kleinfelder will assume no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any claim,
loss of property value, damage, or injury that results from pre-existing hazardous materials
24-YP2512/JAS-273(1993) Page 3 of 4 September 10, 1993
Copyright 1993 Kleinfelder, Inc.
i
