n
2 .0 SCOPE OF WORK
The objectives of the proposed scope of work are to further investigate the extent of impacted
soil and groundwater, establish a groundwater monitoring capability at the site , and survey
possible sensitive receptors in the site vicinity. To achieve these objectives , three on-site
groundwater monitoring wells will be installed and monitored and sampled on a quarterly basis
9 9 P q Y
for at least one year, and a survey of possible sensitive receptors within 2,000 feet of the site will
be conducted . One of the proposed monitoring well soil borings will be continuously cored to
delineate the subsurface soil sequence and to evaluate the vertical extent of impacted soil .
2 . 1 Planning and Permitting
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan addendum will be prepared
according to 29 CFR 1910 . 120 . The health and safety plan addendum will include safety
procedures for work to be performed , chemical hazard information , site safety officers , and a
medical emergency location .
To perform the proposed scope of work, monitoring well permits will be obtained from PHS/EHD .
Since one of the proposed wells will be installed in the sidewalk, an encroachment permit will be
obtained from the city of Stockton . At least two working days prior to field work, Ramage
Environmental will notify PHS/EHD so that any inspections can be scheduled . Underground
Service Alert will also be notified to perform a utility clearance inspection .
2.2 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installations
To evaluate the lateral extent of impacted groundwater and to establish a groundwater
monitoring capability at the site, three on-site groundwater monitoring wells will be installed , and
sampled on a quarterly basis for at least one year. One of the proposed wells will be located at
the south end of the former UST 42 in the vicinity of the previous Geoprobe soil boring G-3 . The
boring for this monitoring well will be continuously cored to delineate the subsurface soil
sequence and to evaluate the vertical extent of impacted soil . Another of the proposed
monitoring wells will be positioned adjacent to the former dispenser island , so that
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons previously detected at that location can be confirmed
and monitored . Given that the regional groundwater flow direction is expected to be toward the
northeast, the other proposed monitoring well will be positioned northeast of the former UST #2 .
The proposed wells adjacent to the former dispenser island and to the northeast of the former
UST will be installed inside the parking garage building (Figure 2) .
