• 2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The objective of the investigation was to further define the lateral extent of impacted soil and
j 9 P
groundwater along the south and east walls of the parking garage site, so that property transfer
decisions could be better evaluated To achieve this objective, Ramage Environmental
supervised the drilling of direct-push sod borings for soil and groundwater sampling at three on-
site locations The locations of the soil borings (G-4, G-5 and G-6) are shown on Figure 3 The
four groundwater monitoring wells were also monitored and sampled
2.1 Project Planning and Permitting
Prior to initiating fieldwork, a site-specific health and safety plan was submitted to EHD The
health and safety plan included safety procedures for work to be performed, chemical hazard
information, site safety officers, and a medical emergency location
To perform the scope of work, a sod boring permit was obtained from EHD Since all three of
' the sod borings were drilled on the subject site, neither private property access agreements nor
encroachment permits were required A copy of the EHD permit is included in Appendix A
lie At least two working days prior to field work, EHD was notified so that any regulatory inspections
could be scheduled Underground Seance Alert (USA) was also notified to mark any
underground utilities (USA Ticket#101594)
' 22 Soil and Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
On March 26, 2004, soil and groundwater samples were collected from the three on-site
locations using a Geoprobe®6600 Direct-Push Technology rig (Geoprobe), operated by Fisch
Environmental (C-57 License#683865) The three bonngs were located inside, along the south
and east walls of the parking garage (Figure 3) The soil borings G-4 and G-6 were advanced to
total depths of 31 feet bgs, and G-5 was drilled to a total depth of 33 feet bgs The depth to first
encountered groundwater ranged from 26 05 feet bgs at G-6 to 29 20 feet bgs at G-5
' oil burins depth-discrete, undisturbed soil samples were collected at five-foot
From all threes g p P
intervals to the total depths of the borings A field geologist logged all soil samples for
hydrogeologic and lithologic characteristics according to the Unified Soil Classification System
and screened each sample for organic vapors using a PID
8
