' October 1, 2004
NOA Project Number: LE03-034
' 3.2 Well Materials
We recommend that the ground water monitoring wells be constructed with the following materials:
Casing Material=Schedule 40 Polyvinylchloride (PVC)
Casing Inside Diameter= 2 inches
Casing Outside Diameter= 2.3 inches
Top and Bottom Casing Caps=Schedule 40 PVC.
' Casing Perforations= Slot Cut No 10 (0.010 inches)
Sand Pack =Lonestar Sand No. 3
Annular seal thickness= 2.1 inches
' Surface Sanitary Seal= Cement-Bentonite grout mixture (5 percent bentonite by weight)
Security Locking Top = 8-inch diameter, orange painted, steelpipe with locking top
Barricade Poles= 6-inch diameterpipe (3 each)placed in concretegrout 3 feet belowground and 3 feet aboveground
surrounding the monitoring well in a 4 foot diameter circle.
A neat cement-bentonite grout mixture with up to 5 percent bentonite by weight will be used for the
' annular seal. According to two well casing distributors, the PVC schedule 40 casing should not be
affected by the resulting heat generated by the cement grout mix. Mr. Garret Hubbard, Geotechnical
Engineer at Neil O.Anderson&Associates, Inc. of our Lodi, California office indicated it is his
' experience that the grout temperature will probably not exceed 95 degrees F. and should not cause
damage to the 2 inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC well casing.
' 4.0 WELL DEVELOPMENT
Well development will take place a minimum of 24 hours or later after the well has been grouted.
' We recommend that the monitoring wells be developed using the following procedures:
4.1 Decontamination Procedures
The well drilling and sampling equipment will be decontaminated prior to drilling and installation of
each proposed monitoring well. The decontamination procedures are described next.
' 1) The drill rods and bits will be steam cleaned prior to drilling and installation of
the monitoring well materials.
2) Equipment that cannot be steam cleaned will be decontaminated by washing with
a solution of potable water and Liquid-Nox solution or equivalent.
3) Gloves and other protective clothing will be containerized for offsite disposal at a
' licensed sanitary landfill,if deemed necessary.
' 6 '-044
