EEC 51462 01 UniFirst Stockton September 24 20¢4
4 2 Confirmation Soil Sample Results
Confirmation sample test results indicated that residual concentrations of TPH motor oil, TPH
' gasoline, ethylbenzene, xylene, and PCE remain in the soil Laboratory results are summarized
on Table 3 and described below A complete copy of the laboratory data is included in Appendix
B
Results of the confirmation sampling indicate the following
• TPH in the motor oil range was detected at relatively low concentrations ranging from
non detect(<1 0 ppm)to 67 ppm,
' • TPH in the gasoline range was detected at relatively low concentrations ranging from non
detect(<1 0 ppm)to 100 ppm,
' • No TPH was detected in the diesel range,
• Ethylbenzene was detected at concentrations ranging from non detect (<5 0 ppb) to 75
ppb
• PCE was found at concentiations ranging from non detect(<5 0 ppb)to 32 ppb,
• Xylenes were found at concentration ranging from non detect(<10 0 ppb) to 42,000 ppb,
• No other VOC constituents were detected
Confirmation sampling test results indicated that the ma oritY of hydrocarbons had been removedJ
Stockpile profile samples indicate that the soil is classified as non-Resource Conservation
' Recovery Act(non-RCRA) hazardous waste
4.3 Soil Removal and Disposal
On December 2, 2003, the stockpiled soil (261 75 tons) was loaded into trucks provided by
Denbeste Transportation (Denbeste), a licensed hazardous waste hauler The soil was transported
' to Chemical Waste Management, Inc in Kettleman City, California for disposal Copies of the
manifests are included in Appendix E Once the impacted soil was removed from the site,
general construction activities resumed
5 0 UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK RELEASE AND RESPONSE ACTION
On December 11, 2003, UniFirst onsite personnel observed a black oily liquid flowing up out of
rainwater which had accumulated at the northwest corner of the site, in the vicinity of the recently
' concluded remediation work EEC immediately responded to the site to contain and determine
the origin of the release Simultaneously, EEC notified the SJCEHD by telephone of the oil
release In turn, the SJCEHD notified the Department of Fish and Game, SJCEHD-Emergency
Response, City of Stockton, and Environmental Protection Agency to inforni them of the oil
release The following agencies responded to the site SJCEHD-Environmental Department,
7
r
