' EEC 51462 01 UntFirg Stockton September 242004
• No lead was detected in soil samples collected beneath the tank or pipeline,
• TAH and several gasoline constituents (toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, trimethyl benzene,
' naphthalene) were detected in a soil sample collected beneath the former UST fill line
TPHd was detected at a concentration of 2,300 ppm, and concentrations of VOC are
ranged from 0 012 ppb to 0 2 ppb Concentrations of individual constituents are shown
on Table 4,
• Soil stockpile samples contained elevated concentrations of TPHd (5,700 ppm to 15,000
ppm), VOC constituents typical of gasoline (xylenes, trlmethylbenzene, naphthalene) at
concentrations ranging from 0 25 ppb to 1 5 ppb, PCE at a concentration of 0 41 ppb, and
lead concentrations of 110 and 140 ppm
The laboratory results indicate that impacted soil beneath the former UST's had been removed
Relatively low concentrations of TPH and VOC remain below the former UST fill pipeline
' 6.7 UST Excavation Backfill
On December 18, 2003, the former UST excavation was backfilled EEC utilized a backhoe with
' a sheep foot roller The backfill material used was dark brown silty sand from an offsite source
EEC placed eight inch loose lifts in the excavation and utilized a sheep's foot roller to achieve the
required compaction Compaction was verified by Philmore King of Raney Geotechnical Inc
' (Raney) Each lift was confirmed to be greater than 95 % compaction Copies of Raney's
compaction reports are included in Appendix I
6.8 Soil Disposal- UST Removal and Soil Remediation
On January 6, 2004 approximately 100 tons of soil associated with the UST removal was
transported by Denbeste to Chemical Waste Management, Inc in Kettleman City, California for
disposal Manifest documentation is present in Appendix E
' 6.9 UST Removal Summary
A Summary of UST removal activity is listed below
' • One 2,500 gallon capacity single-walled steel UST was excavated, cleaned and removed
from the site
' • Samples collected below the former location of the UST were below detection limits for
all TPH and VOC constituents
• Relativity minor concentrations of TPH and VOCs were detected in the soil samples
collected below the former product line located on the west end of the UST
' • Approximately 100 tons of hydrocarbon of VOC impacted soil associated with the UST
excavation were excavated, removed from the site, and disposed of at Chemical Waste
Management, Inc , Kettleman City facility
• The UST excavation was backfilled to at least 95% compaction
11
1
