Nov 29 05 12:48P Peter Weiler (925) 938-1610 P.5
(e.g., site features, utilities, etc.) and final locations may be moved to the closest accessible
location.
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910.120,
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Responses, a site-specific Health and Safety Plan
(HSP)will be prepared for use while conducting the proposed field activities. The HSP will be
read and approved by the Project Manager, a Quality Assurance Reviewer, and the On-site
Safety Officers of ERS and all subcontractors working at the Site.
2.2 TASK 2 --TRENCHING TO DELINEATE LANDFILL CELLS
2.2.1 Trenching to Delineate LandfflI Cell Boundaries
Previous investigations have adequately defined many of the boundaries of the six landfill cells
in the subject area. Boundaries currently without adequate delineation will be located using a
backhoe or track-mounted excavator that will dig trenches and expose the lateral extent, or
edge of,the landfill cell. Figure 8 depicts the nine proposed trench locations.
The exploratory trenching method will begin outside of the suspected edge of the landfill cell.
The trench will be dug to approximately 3 to 5 feet below ground surface (bgs) to ensure that
buried cell contents will be exposed. Once the trench is at the appropriate depth, it will be
extended towards the landfill cell and stopped when disposed wastes are encountered. Each
currently undefined edge will be located in this manner. Cell corners will be confirmed by
advancing two trenches offset by 90 degrees.
2.2.2 Grab Water Sampling and Analysis
Water encountered within a trench at the base of the landfill cell will be collected using either a
peristaltic pump of bailer. If water is present, at least one water sample will be collected from
each landfill cell. Based on the prior analytical results, the water samples will be analyzed by a
California certified laboratory for:
■ Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel, and motor oil by EPA Method 8015
■ Volatile organic compounds by EPA Method 8260
■ Title 22 metals (dissolved)by EPA Methods in the 6000 series.
November 2005 Page 2 Environmental Risk Services,Corporation
