PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITY
Applicable site assessment permits will be submitted to the EHD and a health and safety plan will
be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous
Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. ,
Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to mobilization, the area of
excavation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service
Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
E
AGE proposes to advance nineteen probe borings in the subject area(Figure 2):
• Four borings in the 2008 hydraulic fluid spill area.
• Two borings in the existing AST fueling area and around the reported clarifier area.
• Two borings in the area of the former USTs. '
• One boring in the area of the former UST dispenser.
• One boring in the yard north of the former UST area and northwest of the clarifier.
• Two borings in the area beneath the mechanic's pit.
• Two borings in the area east of(behind) the shop/Caterpillar repair facility.
• Three borings near the greenhouse building, located west of the shop/Caterpillar repair
facility.
• Two borings in the pedestrian way, located north of the agricultural buildings east of the
Caterpillar storage yard.
Utilizing direct push technology, ten soil borings will be advanced to depths of 5 feet bsg, five
borings will be advanced to 10 feet bsg and two borings will be advanced to 20 feet bsg. The two
borings proposed in the mechanic's pit will be hand augured to a depth of 5 feet bsg.Proposed probe
boring locations may be modified due to field observations.
As the borings are advanced, soil samples will be collected at 2 feet and 5 feet bsg from most of the f
sampling locations. Samples will be collected at 5 feet and 10 feet bsg in the area of the hydraulic t
fuel spill area. Borings advanced in the former UST area will be collected at 5 foot intervals,
beginning at 5 feet bsg and extending to the total depth of the probe boring. Field procedures for
advancement of probe borings and collection of soil samples are presented in Sections 4.1. and 4.2.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
I
I
