The plan was prepared to characterize groundwater quality
prior to waste application at a planned new winery. The Workplan seeks comment on the investigation
but because the land application areas are not clearly identified, staff cannot comment on the adequacy
of the investigation at this time. Please address the following items:
o There is no clearly upgradient well based on a groundwater flow direction to the east as described
in the Workplan. Wells MW-1 and MW-2 appear to be located within or downgradient of the
.identified land application area. Consider moving one or both wells to allow one well to be located
upgradient of the land application area, and the other well to be in, or downgradient of the land
application area.
o Well MW-3 appears to be positioned to monitor groundwater downgradient of the future ponds.
Please locate the well within 50-feet of the future pond location.
o As presented, the wells provide adequate triangulation to determine the groundwater flow
direction. When revising the groundwater monitoring wells please keep the triangulation
requirement in mind.
The workplan is approved on the condition that the above comments are addressed in an addendum letter
to be submitted prior to installation of the wells. If you have any questions on this conditional approval,
please telephone me at(916) 464-4616.
TIMOTHY ".O'BRIEN
Waste Discharge to Land Unit
cc: Margaret Lagorio, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, Stockton
James Robinson, P.G.,Neil O.
