A summary of the analytical results obtained from the soil
samples collected to date has been included as attachment for your reference . PHS/EHD
has the following comments for your consideration .
Significant soil contamination was evidenced at the time of tank removal in November
1987 . Subsequently, an over-excavation was attempted and contaminated soil removed to
approximately 22 feet below grade . Soil samples were collected on January 21 , 1988 that
continued to evidence contamination . The stockpiled soil was reportedly disposed at
Forward Inc . by Falcon Energy.
A soil investigation will be necessary to determine the extent of residual soil
contamination . The seasonal high depth to groundwater in the area of the site is
approximately 30 feet below grade ( San Joaquin County Flood Control Map 1986) ;
therefore , a groundwater investigation will also be required .
Please submit by August 15 , 1996 a work plan to complete the soil/groundwater
investigation necessary to evaluate the threat/impact to groundwater. If you have any
questions or require further information, please contact me at (209 ) 468-0337 .
Donna Heran, Director, REHS
Environmental Health Division
V
Mary Meays , Senior EHS Margaret agono, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Lead Senior
enclosure
cc : Elizabeth Thayer, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
