. , I'A"'I T AL HEALTH
kn KLEINFELDER RErWIF SEIRVIGE
93 JUR I It PM 1: 52
June 11, 1993
File: 24-220152-D00
Ms. Linda Turkette
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Verification of Soil Remediation
500 Hospital Road
French Camp, California
Dear Ms. Turkette:
Per my discussion on June 10, 1993 with Ms. Diane Hinsen, I am sending this letter to
document the approved soil sampling frequency and protocol for the aerating soil at the
hospital. Based on rough stockpile measurements and truck counts, Kleinfelder estimates that
approximately 2,400 cubic yards of soil are being aerated. The aeration cell is approximately
300 feet by 200 feet spread approximately 1 foot deep. As we discussed, 48 samples were
analyzed to receive approval to aerate by the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control
District. The maximum reported concentration of TPHg was 37 mg/kg.
Prior to actually sampling the soil, a Kleinfelder representative will qualitatively screen the soil
using a PID. If the qualitative readings are consistently below 5 ppmv, verification samples
will be collected. One sample will be collected for each approximately 100 cubic yards of soil
being aerated. The samples will be collected in six rows with four samples per row.
Immediately after collection, each sample will be sealed with Teflon sheeting and plastic caps,
labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody, and stored in an iced cooler. Each of the samples will
be submitted to Superior Precision Analytical Laboratories, Inc. (Superior) in Martinez,
California. The samples will be composited four into one by the laboratory. The six resultant
samples will be analyzed for TPHg and BTEX.
Kleinfelder appreciates your assistance with this project. Although we are currently projecting
to sample on June 23, 1593, we wiil confirm with you at least two days prior to sampling.
Hugs and kisses to Nicholas.
Sincerely,
LDER, INC.
41-1
(7 C
Dana W.
