KLEINFELDER '
2 BACKGROUND
This report describes Kleinfelder's petroleum hydrocarbon soil assessment of three
underground gasoline storage tanks at the San Joaquin County Hospital at 150 Hospital
Lane in French Camp, Califorma (Plate 1, Site Location Map). The underground tanks are
located at two sites (Plate 2, Underground Tank Location Map)
Site #1 has a 6,000 gallon underground gasoline storage tank (T1) Although there is no
written record of the tank installation date, it is believed that T1 may have been installed in '
the 1940s. Although T1 was reported to contain unleaded gasoline, because of its age, it is
possible that it had contained leaded gasoline at one time. Because TI recently failed a
precision tank test, San Joaquin County is considering closure of the tank.
Site #2 has two 750 gallon underground storage tanks (72, T3). Tank 72 was originally ,
thought to be the only tank at the site, however, tank T3 was found to be adjacent to T2
during a geophysical survey The tanks reportedly contained gasoline at one time, but have
not been filled 1n at least 25 years A recent sounding of one of the tank's contents
indicated that the tank was empty, but the sounding stick smelled of gasoline when '
retrieved Tanks T2 and T3 are scheduled for closure to allow for the construction of a
building on the site
San Joaquin County's Department of Capital Projects (SJCDCP) contracted with
Klernfelder to assess soil in the vicinity of the tanks The purpose of the assessment was to ,
provide SJCDCP with additional information in its evaluation of closure options for the
tanks sites '
1
FR25-91-29 Page 3 of 11 '
Copyright 1991 HIecnfelder, Inc
