419 Main Street
Boyett Petroleum,Page 2
2) Condor and EHD agreed that installation of the shallow groundwater wells proposed in the
report should be preceded by advancement of cone penetrometer testing(CPT) to at least
75 feet bsg to properly design the additional monitoring wells. Multi-chambered monitoring
wells may be the technology of choice to define the vertical as well as lateral extent of the
contamination on and off site. Submit a work plan to EHD to define the vertical and lateral
extent of the contamination plume, including the use of CPT,by June 31,2003.
3) EHD agreed with Condor's recommendations to:
• Conduct a door-to-door survey of the residential area to identify and locate private
_ wells and to identify the source of any pumping influence as a supplement to the
previously submitted 2000-foot sensitive receptor survey(Third Quarter2000QMR).
EHD requests any well construction details found to be included.. If confidentiality
- _ is a concern,EHD requests the information be submitted it in a separate
confidential mailing. Conduct and submit, this survey to EHD by July 1,2003.
• Redevelop MW-1,MW-2,MW-3,MW-6,MW-7,MW-8,and MW-9 to remove as
much sediments as possible from the well casings.
• Destroy both damaged and consistently dry wells MW-4 and MW-5 and replace
MW-4 with anew monitoring well in.the same area.-It appears that MW-2 provides ,
adequate monitoring-south of impacted wells._
• Begin a monthly monitoring and sampling schedule over-the next 6 consecutive
months to characterize the fluctuation of MTBE concentrations in the groundwater
i samples. `
EHD recommends MW-1 design be reviewed in the context of a site conceptual model, and if
MW-1 potentially creates a vertical conduit between different sand layers. Submit a work plan for
well replacement if appropriate.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeffrey Wong at(209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
1_4 Jeffrey Wong, Senior RENS Nuel C.Henderson,Jr.,RG %
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
C: RWQCB,Central Valley Region—James L.L.Barton,RG
r C: Condor Earth Technology—Lee Morse/David Wood
