, F
Boyett Petroleum April 19, 2000
'i 419 South Main Street, Manteca, California Page 3
iWork Plan for Lateral Extent
' of Groundwater Contamination
present in the soil samples collected from the monitoring wells until the point of the
soil/water interface (capillary fringe).
MW proposes three (3) shallow soil borings to a depth of approximately thirty feet (30')
' with the conversion of said borings to monitoring wells to confirm the presence or absence
of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater underlying the site.
y, The representative from WHF will identify actual soil boring/monitoring well depth
termination at the time of the drilling. Figure 3 depicts the location of proposed monitoring
wells.
The data collected during this scope of work will be used to define the migration of the
groundwater plume, to complete a feasibility study, and to make recommendations
regarding future work at this site. The feasibility study will evaluate the following
remediation options:
• Natural biological attenuation
• Enhanced biological attenuation using Oxygen Release Compound
' . • Air sparge and vapor extraction wells
• Groundwater pump and treat
• Over-excavation
i
' 3.1 Drilling
Permits will be obtained, as necessary, for the borings and monitoring well before drilling
begins. The soil borings will be accomplished using a mobile mounted drilling rig
employing the use of a hollow stem flight auger no less than 3 '/4-inch i.d. and 8-inch o.d.
' All drilling equipment will be thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling begins, to prevent the
introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings to prevent cross
' contamination.
The borings will be logged under the direct supervision of a registered professional using
the Unified Soil Classification System (Figure 4). The color, texture, moisture, plasticity (if
t applicable), consistency of the earth materials, pertinent soil or bedrock characteristics, and
any evidence of contamination will be noted. Exploratory soil borings within the unsaturated zone will be backfilled with a cement
' and three percent (3%)Bentonite mixture.
