Environmental Investigation Workplan
Banner Island, Stockton, California
In an effort to evaluate the presence of lead and petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and ground water
at Banner Island, Stockton, California, Harza will drill ten exploratory borings and collect soil and
ground water samples. The site location is shown on Figure 1, and the site plan is shown on
Figure 2.
1.0 SCOPE OF WORK
Our scope of work will consist of the following tasks:
1.1 Task 1 - Prefield Activities
Prior to drilling the wells,Harza will notify Underground Service Alert(USA)to clear the proposed
drilling locations, and obtain drilling permits from the San Joaquin County Department of
Environmental Services.
1.2 Task 2 - Soil Borings
Drilling and sampling procedures are attached. Ten holes (HB 1 - HB l 0) will be drilled at the
approximate locations shown on Figure 2. Soil samples will be collected to evaluate the presence
of petroleum hydrocarbons in shallow soil in the west and east sides of the property, and to
characterize the vertical and areal extent of metals in the vicinity of former boring B 1, MW-6, and
MW-7, and of metals and petroleum hydrocarbons near former boring 134.
The west and east portions of the property will be evaluated by collecting soil samples from depths
of 1.5 and 3 feet at five locations(HB 1 -HB5)as shown on Figure 2. The 1.5-foot samples will be
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as diesel, kerosene, hydraulic oil, and motor oil
(total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons, or TEPH), and TPH as gasoline (TPHg) and benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes(BTEX). The 3-foot samples will be held pending the results of
the initial analyses.
Soil samples will be collected from two locations (HB6 and HB7) between boring B 1 and wells
MW-6 and MW-7 as shown on Figure 2. Samples will be collected at depths of 1.5, 5, and 10 feet.
All soil samples will be analyzed for lead.
Soil samples will be collected from three locations (H138 - HB 10) in the vicinity of boring 134 on
25-foot centers. Samples will be collected at depths of 1.5, 5, and 10 feet. Boring HB8 will be
advanced to approximately 2 feet below the water table, and a ground water sample will be collected.
L067-H environ\ban_wp.sjc
9-14-95 1
i i n p ,a,
