3 . CONCLUSIONS <br /> An SVCA was carried out at the undeveloped Chevron property <br /> SS 9-0265 adjacent to Interstate Highway 5 in Lathrop, <br /> California, in June 1988 . During the field investigation no <br /> visual signs of contamination were observed ( e.g. , soil <br /> staining ) , nor were any odors noted. The SVCA results indicate <br /> that there were no detectable levels of aromatic volatile hydro- <br /> carbons in the soil gases. Low levels of an apparent alkane may <br /> suggest degradation of naturally occurring soil organics. How- <br /> ever, the levels of light alkanes do not suggest that anaerobic <br /> biodegradation of organic compounds is occurring at a significant <br /> level . <br /> c40/90265 8 <br />
