I. INTRODUCTION
This Report issues my findings regarding the Nitrate Loading and Soil Suitability Studies
completed for the operational Robertson's Ready Mix facility located at the address referenced on
the Title Page. These Studies were completed to examine the underlying soil structure and
characteristics to determine the suitability of an on-site wastewater treatment(septic) system. The
Studies also provide the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD) with their
required information. This report complies with San Joaquin County Development Title, Section
9-1105.2(d). Mr. Rick Edmondson, the project manager for Robertson's, has provided the
preliminary information to complete these Studies.
Currently, portable toilets are used on the facility. A new, modular Men's/Women's Restroom is
proposed to be installed near the southeast corner of the property. Influent will flow into a new
2,000 gallon septic tank to be discharged through a conventional leachline trench leachfield.
Within the text of this Report, Bolded Section (§) numbers are referenced at the beginning of an
applicable Paragraph(s), or Appendices that correspond with the EHD Requirements Checklist.
Section Numbers referenced as SSS§, are sections applicable for the Soil Suitability Study
Requirements Checklist. Section Numbers referenced as NLS§, are sections applicable for the
Nitrate Loading Study Requirements Checklist. Other portions of text may also apply to other
sections of the Checklists, but may not necessarily be referenced.
NLS§2.3, SSS§3.1. The subject property is located on the east side of Interstate 5 and Harlan
Road, at the south end of the town of French Camp. There are no municipal sewer and/or
stormwater management services; however, City of Stockton water service is available and
currently serves the facility. Consequently, the property must have its own septic system and on-
site stormwater retention system. It will be a number of years before wastewater and stormwater
management services become available in this locale.
SSS§ 1.1, 1.2. The APN, District Viewer and Aerial photo in Appendix A illustrates the layout of
the property. The SJC District Viewer Map indicates the subject Parcel is 11.07 acres. However,
Robertson's present land use of the property only encompasses 4.82 acres of this 11.07 acres and is
delineated in an aerial photo found in Appendix F. This reduction in area has been factored into
the nitrate loading calculations.
The percolation testing protocol has found the indigenous soils under the proposed conventional
leachfield disposal area to contain a sandy loam(fine sandy silt with 6%clay) in the shallow 0 ft-
4 ft soils, with increasing clay content with increasing depth to a silt loam(clayey silt with 22%
clay) soil material. Soil at the 36" depth possesses a rapid permeability, with a slow permeability
at the 96" depth. It is to be noted that the proposed leachfield area was over-excavated one-to-two
ft when Robertson's moved onto the site. This material was stockpiled directly to the east of this
disposal area and will be replaced to its original location before leachfield construction. It is my
professional opinion this volume of this soil to be replaced will have no bearing on the operation of
the future leachfield since it will be higher in elevation than the soil-effluent interface.
Page 4-
Chesney Consulting
