In
general, the facility was clean and well maintained. A site inspection photograph log is enclosed with
this letter. The following observations were noted:
• The facility was not processing tomatoes at the time of the inspection. Employees were involved
in maintenance procedures. Tomato processing season runs from approximately July to October.
• Muddy wastewater is generated by rinsing the produce as it arrives from the fields. That
wastewater contains sediment and is filtered with a parabolic screen prior to discharge to the
fields.
• Cleaning procedures include rinses with sodium hypochlorite and citric acid. Wastewater
generated in cleaning activities are pumped to the lined pond. The acidity of the pond is
neutralized prior to discharge to the fields.
• Process wastewater is generated at the facility. It contains tomato juice, stems, skins, evaporated
water, and chilling water. All process water is filtered with a rotary screen and a parabolic screen
prior to discharge to the fields.
• Most of the wastewater will be applied at the 100 acre site and on the Solari fields. Crops will be
grown in all the fields where wastewater is applied. Wastewater is mixed with well water prior
to application.
If you have any questions about this information, please contact me at (916) 255-3116.
TIMOTHY R.
