Ms. Amaro
January 15, 2014
continued reduction in concentrations can be adequately monitored by existing wells at the Site.
Accordingly,we request that these wells be eliminated from the monitoring program after abandonment
rather than replaced.
The Port has applied for an expedited permit from the San Joaquin Count),Environmental Health
Department to properly abandon the wells and piezometers. All well abandonment will be carried out in
compliance with requirements of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, and the
requirements of the California Well Standards, including Part III, Destrnctiou of Mmitorbig Wells,Bulletin
74-90 (Supplement to Bulletin 74-81). The preliminary work described in the California Well Standards
will be performed prior to abandonment, including determination of the condition of the well and
cleaning of the well prior to destruction.
A complete well abandonment report will be submitted within 60 days of completion of the
abandonment, and will include a discussion of filling and sealing procedures, materials, depths of placed
grout, permits, and County inspector observations.
Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
ERS Corporation
Peter Weiler,Ph.D.
Senior Hydrogeophysicist
Appendices
Cc:Jose Salcedo,DTSC
