JUN-25-2007 10:23 FUGRO WEST, INC. 1 510 269 0545 P.03iO4
FOLSOM SOUTH CANAL CONNECTION PIPELINE WORK PLAN
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Folsom South Canal Connection(FSCC) Project is part of the larger Freeport
Regional Water Project being implemented jointly by the Sacramento County Water
Agency(SCWA)and the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBIMUD). The FSCC
project involves the design and construction of a new, raw water conveyance system that
interconnects the existing United States Bureau of Reclamation, Folsom South Canal and
the EBMUD Mokelumne Aqueduct. The FSCC project includes an intake structure and a
100-million gallons per day (mgd)pumping plant to be located at the end of the existing
Folsom South Canal, 15 miles of 72 inch-diameter pipeline to convey water to an 8-
million-gallon equalization tank and a 100 mgd pumping plant near Camanche Reservoir
and 3 miles of 72-inch-diameter pipeline to convey water to the District's Mokelumne
Aqueduct.
SUBSURFACE EXPLORATION PROGRAM
A conventional boring (i.e., 8-inch-diameter or less) will be drilled at the proposed
location shown on Figure 1. The boring will be drilled to a maximum depth of 25 feet.
The conventional boring will utilize hollow-stem-auger drilling techniques provided by
PC Exploration, previously Major Drilling USA Inc. An engineer or geologist from
Fug-ro will log and visually classify the soil materials encountered during the drilling
operation and record groundwater levels. Ingeneral, samples will be obtained with a 2-
inch outer- diameter SPT sampler and a 3-inch-outer-diameter Modified California
sampler, as appropriate. Samples will be obtained approximately every 5 vertical feet of
boring drilled. However, more closely spaced sampling will occur within the zone from
about 5 feet above to about 5 feet below the proposed pipe zone.
