Fused capillary <br /> columns are preferred to packed columns; a packed column may <br /> be used as a "first cut's with "dirty" samples or once the <br /> hydrocarbons have been characterized and proper QA/QC is <br /> followed. <br /> 7 . TETRAETHYLLEAD (TEL) may be analyzed as total lead. However, <br /> a confirming analysis must be completed using a soil sample <br /> at the same soil depth in another borehole, or for water, <br /> from an upgradient well that is not contaminated with <br /> hydrocarbons. <br /> S . CHLORINATED HYDROCARBONS (CL HC) and BENZENE, TOLUENE, XYLENE <br /> AND ETHYLBENZENE (PTX&E) are analyzed in soil by EPA methods <br /> 8010 and 8020, respecti�21y, (or 8240) and for water 601 and <br /> 602 , respectively, (or 624 ) , <br /> 9 . OIL AND GREASE (0 i G) may be used when heavy, straight chain <br /> hydrocarbons may be present.
