Section 5. Field Procedures
L.
5.1. BORING ADVANCEMENT
Forty eight soil borings will be advanced into the subsurface using DPT equipment at locations identified
on Figure 2. The soil borings will be drilled one foot deeper than the top of the water table (11 feet bgs)
to a total depth of approximately 12 feet bgs. Four-point composite soil samples and discrete soil samples
will be collected from soil borings for laboratory analyses. The DPT sampling equipment consists of a
three-foot-long two-inch drive casing with an inner sample barrel with an inner sample sleeve (acetate
liner). These components are simultaneously hammered into the subsurface at three-foot intervals. After
advancing three feet, the sample barrel and acetate liner are retrieved while the drive casing remains in the
ground. The sample barrel with a new acetate sleeve is then placed back into the drive casing and driven
three additional feet. The soil sample is collected at the appropriate intervals from the core contained in
the acetate sleeve.
5.1.1. Decontamination
Prior to mobilization, the DPT rig and associated sampling equipment will be decontaminated. Once at
the site, the DPT rig will be decontaminated between boring locations. All rinsates, liquid spray, soil,
debris, and other decontamination wastes will be fully contained, characterized and disposed of
appropriately.
The minimum steps for decontamination are as follows:
■ Appropriate personal protective equipment (as specified in the project work plans) will be worn
by all personnel performing decontamination,in order to limit worker exposure.
■ Equipment caked with drill cuttings, soil, or other material will be initially scraped or brushed.
The scrapings will be containerized and appropriately disposed of.
■ Equipment will be rinsed with potable water.
IN During the decontamination effort, fluid systems should be routinely inspected for any leaks or
problems, which may potentially result in an inadvertent release at the site, thereby contributing
to the volume of waste or contamination. Any identified problems should be repaired
immediately and documented on the appropriate form(s).
kon-fs0ltprojects\2008_ProlectsQ8-078 City of Stockton Soil Fxci valionZ.OnginalsZannpling and Analysis Plan\Stockton_SAP_Diall_062608_bb.d.c ""
5-1
ERRG
