f
y
CAMBRIA
• Four soil borings (SB-1 through SB-4).are proposed at the locations shown on Plate 2.
Soil samples will be collected and analyzed to delineate .the vertical extent of
petroleum hydrocarbons and MTBE identified in the vicinity of Dispensers 1, 2, and
3 and the product piping near soil sample PL-9.
Work Tasks
Permits: An appropriate permit for drilling will be obtained from SJCPHS/EHD.
Health and Safety Plan: A. site-specific Health and- Safety Plan will be prepared for field
work.
Utility Clearance: Proposed drilling locations will be marked and their locations cleared
through Underground Services Alert (USA) prior to drilling.
Site Investigation: Four exploratory soil borings. are proposed in areas with residual
petroleum hydrocarbon .and/or MTBE concentrations from the tank removal investigation at
the locations shown on Plate 2.
The borings will be drilled using hollow-stem auger equipment. A Cambria geologist will
supervise the drilling and describe encountered soils using the Unified Soil Classification
System and Munsell Soil Color Charts. .Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals for
lithologic description and possible chemical analysis. Soil samples will be screened in the field
at 5-foot intervals for organic vapors with a photo-ionization detector (PID). PID readings
will be recorded on the boring log for each boring.
Soil samples will be retained in sample tubes and will be covered on both ends with Teflon
sheets and plastic end caps. Soil samples will be labeled, entered onto a chain-of-custody
record and placed into a cooler with ice for transport to a State- of California certified
laboratory for analysis.
Each boring will be advanced until there is no field evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons or
MTBE in order to delineate the vertical extent of these constituents.
Groundwater Sampling: If groundwater is encountered in any of ,the borings, grab
groundwater samples will be.collected. Groundwater samples will be contained in approved
sample containers, labeled, entered onto a chain-of-custody record and placed into a cooler
with ice for transport to a State of California certified laboratory for analysis.
241-1346 3
