A peristaltic pump will be
used to fill a one-liter (1-L) Tedlar bag (for hydrogen sulfide analysis) at rates between 100 and
200 mUmin.
Soil vapor samples will be analyzed by Air Toxics, Ltd. (Air Toxics)of Folsom, California by the
following methods:
• 6-1,stainless steel Summa canister for methane by Method ASTM D-1946;
• 1-L Tedlar bag for hydrogen sulfide(H,S)by Method ASTM D-5504.
Sample containers will be placed in the appropriate packaging provided by the analytical
laboratory and delivered to the analytical laboratory under proper chain-of-custody
documentation. A table summarizing the analytical methods, sampling containers, and holding
times is provided below.
TABLE 1
Air Sample Methods, Containers,Preservatives, and Holding Times
Method Sample Sample
Parameter Number Volume Container Preservative Holding Time
Hydrogen Sulfide ASTM D-5504 1 liter Tedlar Bag None 24 hours
Methane ASTM D-1946 6 liter SUMMA None 28 days
QA/QC Verification for ASTM Method 5504
The analytical laboratory responsible for analyzing the soil gas samples for hydrogen sulfide will
provide QA/QC verification for the data results from ASTM Method 5504.
