Appendix
Drilling and Sampling Procedures
The procedures that will be used for drilling the boring and collecting soil samples are presented
below.
F Drilling and Soil Sampling Procedures
A 9
• Up to four soil borings will be advanced using direct-push sampling equipment.
Three borings (B-2 through B-4) will be advanced to approximately 7.6 meters
(25 feet) below ground surface (BGS), One boring (B-1) will be advanced to
+ approximately 12.2 meters (40 feet) BGS.
Soil samples will be collected at 1.5-meler(5-foot) intervals. Soil samples will be
collected using a 5-centimeter(2-inch) diameter sampler lined with a 1.3-meter
(4-foot) long acetate sleeve.
• Borings will be backfilled with bentonite cement grout from the bottom of the
borehole to ground surface.
i
• The ground surface will be repaired with cold patch asphalt or concrete, where j
applicable. !
• The drilling and sampling equipment wi 1 be washed in a detergent rinse, two
w clear water rinses, and a final deionized/fistilled water rinse prior to drilling.
Soil and wastewater generated during th field activities will be contained in
208-liter(55-gallon)United Nations approved drums.
Groundwater Sampling Procedures
• Field activities and equipment utilization Will be recorded on field report forms.
• A groundwater sample will be collected om each boring.
I. ,
Groundwater samples will be collected from either well casing inserted into each
boring or HydroPunch-type groundwaterzmpling equipment. The well casing
will consist of 2.5-centimeter (1-inch) di eter, Schedule 40, flush-threaded,
0.05-centimeter (0.020-inch), machine-slotted polyvinyl chloride (PVC) well
screen. If free product is encountered, product thickness will be verified using a
disposable bailer. Up to three methods may be used for groundwater collection and
these include the following. i.
I
— Dedicated Teflon tubing with a single-ball, stainless steel check valve; or
A new disposable polyethylene or Teflon bailer, or stainless steel bailer; or
— A peristaltic pump and new dedicated Teflon tubing.
41,UCRFPi1COWOMsnDR2OOaPR APJM1835444.2ab.Qoc
A-1
