kn KLEINFELDER r
2 BACKGROUND
The Canlis Building (the Courthouse Annex Building) is located at 24 S. Hunter Street,
Stockton, California (Plate 1). A 20,000-gallon underground diesel storage tank is located
beneath the grass between the west side of the building and the S. Hunter Street sidewalk. The
tank failed a tank test, and the remaining product was removed from the tank.
The tank edge is approximately 5 feet from the west side of the building and less than 5 feet I
C
from the S. Hunter Street sidewalk. Due to the size of the tank, the size of the excavation that I
1 would be required to remove the tank, and the tank's proximity to the building and street, San i
Joaquin County General Services is seeking approval to properly abandon the tank in place.
SJCEHD requested a soil assessment in the vicinity of the tank prior to considering in-place
closure.
San Joaquin County" General Services retained Kleinfelder to prepare a work plan and conduct
_ a soil investigation to assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in the vicinity of the
diesel storage tank. Kleinfelder submitted a work plan dated April 23, 1992 to SJCEHD to
drill and sample three vertical borings adjacent to the tank. SJCEHD requested that four
vertical borings and one angle boring be advanced adjacent to the tank. An addendum dated
September 10, 1992 was attached to the work plan. The addendum included the additional two
borings. This report presents the results of the soil assessment in the vicinity of the tank.
i
)
t
1
1 fff
i
FR8-92-211 Page 3 of 8 24-220191-A00
Copyright 1992 Kleinfelder, Inc.
