06 June 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0468
Laboratory reports for ground water analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality
control (QA/QC)reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report
of findings and recommendations.
2.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Following the CPT site investigation, a report will be prepared presenting the findings. The report
will include a description of work performed, results of the ground water sampling and analysis,
conclusions and recommendations The report will be in a format acceptable to RWQCB guidelines,
and will be reviewed and signed by a California Registered Geologist.
3.0. FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist. Procedures for CPT sounding and grab ground water sampling are described
below.
3.1. CPT SOIL BORINGS
Each CPT soil boring will be advanced to a depth of t 00 feet bsg utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted
CPT drill rig equipped with a hydraulic ram and 2-inch diameter hollow-stern rods to advance soil
borings. The initial soil boring at each location will be a cone penetrometer, advanced to the desired
depth. Soil parameters such as cone bearing, sleeve friction, friction ration and pore water pressure
will be measured as the cone penetrometer is advanced. Rinseate generated as part of the drilling
activities will be containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums and stored on-site
in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated at a later date based on
laboratory results of rinscate samples.
A second soil boring will be located no more than three feet from the first CPT boring for ground
water sample collection. Grab ground water samples will be collected from within 2-inch diameter
hollow-stem rods equipped with a four-foot,extendable 0.01-inch slotted PVC screen. Grab ground
water samples will be collected in selected intervals of saturated porous and permeable material. The
screen will be exposed at the selected depths and a stainless steel bailer will be used to retrieve the
water samples. Ground water samples for appropriate EPA analyses will be collected into 40-m1
volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5 ml of hydrochloric acid as a sample
preservative.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
