I,
riaInc .
An Environmental Services Company
December 17, 1991
Mr. Frank Beeler
Assistant Water and Waste Water Superintendent IL t C u
' Department of Public Works
City of Lodi
1331 South Ham Lane
Lodi, CA 95242
' Subject: Analytical Results for Cleaning Water from Drilling
at the Togo' s Restaurant Site, 305 South Hutchins
' Street, Lodi, CA, and Permission to Dispose of Same.
Dear Mr. Beeler:
' Uriah, Inc. supervised drilling of three 60-foot deep exploratory
soil borings in the parking lot at the subject site during
December 12, 13 , and 16, 1991 . The soil at the site is variably
contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons presumably originating from
leaks or spalls at the gasoline station that previously occupied
the site. During and after drilling, the augers and soil
' sampling equipment were decontaminated by steam cleaning or
washing with a solution of Alconox or trisodium phosphate (TSP) .
All cleaning and rinse water was collected and stored on site
in two 55-gallon DOT drums. Total volume of this water is about
100 gallons .
Following cleanup on Monday, December 160 a water sample was
' collected from the drums in two 1 -liter amber glass bottles.
Each bottle was filled half way with water from one barrel,
filled to the top with water from the other barrel, and seal-
ed with a teflon-lined cap, and then stored under ice, and
' eventually, stored in a dedicated refrigerator until the sample
was analyzed on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 17, 1991 ,
by analyst Adrian Ilie using the HNU-Hanby method described
' in Appendix A. The detection limit of this method is 10 parts
per million (ppm) Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) in water.
The sample contained no detectable levels of fuel hydrocarbons.
In our telephone conversation this afternoon, you indicated
that the above TPH level in the water is sufficiently low that
we may discharge the water to the City of Lodi sanitary sewer
system. We will do this within the next three weeks, and will
notify you prior to discharge. As time permits, please send
a memorandum confirming authorization to discharge as we have
' 464 Lindbergh At F e Livermore California 94550 (415) 455-4991
