Parts per million
N.D. . . .Below the limits of laboratory detection ( i .e. < . 15 ppm)
In order to acquire the additional information necessary to
more thoroughly define the contaminant plume, calculate the
volume and types of soils impacted, and design a cost effective,
efficient, and appropriate remediation system, it is proposed
that three additional soil borings be advanced at the locations
specified in Figure 2 as EB-4 , EB-5, and EB-6 . Each of these
' borings would be advanced using a truck-mounted hydraulic drive
drill rig equipped with 8" diameter, continuous flight, hollow
stem augers; and logged in accordance with the Unified Soil
Classification System. Auger lengths would be steam cleaned
' prior to being brought on site and between borings . Soil samples
would be collected within a Modified California Split Spoon
Sampler fitted with 1 . 9 inch diameter by 6 . 0 inch long brass
' sleeves . The sampler will be driven 18 inches into relatively
undisturbed soil by a standard 30-inch drop of a 140 pound
hammer. Discrete soil samples will be collected at five foot
' intervals , at apparent lithologic contacts, and at the
vadose/saturated zone interface. Upon returning the sampler
to grade, the split spoon will be opened and the sample sleeves
removed. The ends of each sleeve will be promptly covered with
' teflon pads, capped with plastic, sealed with black electrical
tape, marked, and placed on blue ice pending transportation
to a certified laboratory under chain of custody.
