Project No 58080-06-02
' January 5, 1995
Page 3 '
• Soil samples were collected from the borings at approximate 5-foot intervals utilizing a 2-
inch diameter split spoon sampler equipped with a six-inch-long by 2-mch diameter brass
sample tubes to facilitate sample handling and storage The sample tubes were capped,
labeled and chilled pending transport to an analytical laboratory
• The soil cores were field screened with a photo ionization detector (PID) to assess possible
qualitative indicators of volatile organic compounds
' Quality assurance/quality control procedures were provided during the field exploration
activities These procedures included cleansing/rinsing of the sampling equipment, steam
' cleaning augers prior to and between borings, and providing chain-of-custody documentation
for each soil sample transferred to the laboratory Cleansing/rmsing of the sampling
equipment was performed prior to the collection of each soil sample by washing the
equipment with a trisodlum phosphate solution followed by subsequent tap water and
deionized water rinses
• Soil samples were transported to Sequoia Analytical, a California certified analytical
' laboratory for testing of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel fuel (TPHd) following EPA Test Method 8015 modified, and BTEX
and MTBE following EPA Test Method $020
• Monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-5 were developed using a surge block to densify the sand
pack followed by pumping to remove sediment and groundwater
• Depth-to-groundwater measurements were obtained from wells MW-1 through MW-5 and
each monitoring well was checked for the presence of free product
' Groundwater samples were collected from wells MW-1 through MW-5 Prior to groundwater
collection, approximately three well volumes of standing groundwater was purged to allow
1 fresh formation water to infiltrate the wells During purging, the pH, temperature, and
electrical conductivity of the groundwater was measured and the purging was considered
complete when these parameters stabilized
' • Groundwater samples were collected utilizing disposable Voss polyethylene bailers The
samples were placed in laboratory provided volatile organics analysis(VOA)vials and 1-liter
amber ars, labeled, chilled, and delivered to Sequoia Analytical following standard
chain-of-custody procedures
• The elevations of the top of each well casing for wells MW-1 through MW-5 were surveyed
' relative to City of Lodi benchmark #516
• The development and purge water was reanned onsite in 55-gallon drums pending the results
of the laboratory analyses and subsequent disposal following regulatory protocol
1
t
