KLEINFFLDER
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylenes (BTEX) by Method 8015/8021 B
• Total Puigeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Gasoline (TPH-G) by EPA Method
8015/8021B
The samples were analyzed on a standard laboratory turnaround schedule requiring
' approximately 10 working days
For a summary of the results of the chemical analyses conducted, please refer to the attached
' Table 1
' 3.0 FINDINGS
The groundwater flow direction was calculated to be towards the northeast with a gradient of
' approximately 0 011 ft/ft (see Plate 3) during the August 2001 sampling event The groundwater
flow direction was calculated to be cast by southeast with a gradient of approximately 0 0053 ft/ft
(see Plate 4) during the December 2001 sampling event Past groundwater flow directions
' between October 1998 and July 2000 have been to the northeast at gradients ranging from 0 004
to 0 010 ft /ft Groundwater flow changed slightly in December 2000 with an estimated flow to
the east at a gradient of approximately 0 005 ft/ft
' Although no measurable product or sheen was noted, a petroleum-like odor was noted from
purge water m monitoring well MW-1 during both sampling events No unusual odor was noted
in monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3 during these two semi-annual sampling events
TPH-G and BTEX constituents were detected in one or more groundwater samples collected
' from the three wells during the two 2001 sampling events The analytical results are summarized
on the attached Table 1
' During the August, 2001 sampling event, TPH-G was detected in groundwater from each of the
three wells at concentrations ranging from 49 to 2,400 µg/1 (parts per billion) BTEX constituents
' were detected primarily in MW-1 Benzene was detected at 1,100 µg/1 in MW-1 and at 17 µg/1
in MW-3 Ethylbenzene and total xylenes were detected only in MW-1 at 52 µg/1 and 2 2 µg/l,
respectively Toluene was not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in the three-
groundwater samples
During the December, 2001 sampling event, TPH-G was detected in groundwater from each of
the three wells at concentrations ranging from 36 to 610 µg/1 (parts per billion) Benzene was
detected in monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-3 at concentrations of 220 and 190 µg/l,
respectively Toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes were not detected at or above laboratory
' reporting limits in groundwater samples collected from each of the three wells
The two semi-annual sampling events show an overall decrease in petroleum constituent
concentrations as compared historically since October 1998, especially in groundwater collected
from MW-1 during the last semi-annual sampling event conducted in December 2001 The
20-4439 01 CO3 1 20028010 Pagc 4 of 7
Copyright 2002 Kleinfcldcr Inc January 23 2002
