A) Total Organic Vapors
A direct reacting photoionization detection (PID) meter (HNU PI 101
or equivalent) will be used to monitor the concentrations of organic
vapors in the Oork area. Measurements will be taker} at least once
every 15 minutes during surface and subsurface sample collection.
Ilre meter will be calibrated for benzene. Total organic vapor
measurements will be used to determine the appropriate levels of
respiratory protection and conditions for site evacuation. Total
organic vapor concentrations in the workers breathing zone in excess
of 10 Pprn above backgr(nind will trigger art upgrade from level D to
level C protection. Breathing zone cor►centrations in excess of 250
ppm will stop the work on--site until the work zone concentrations are
reduced to below 250 ppw.
EMPLOYEE rRAINING AND INFORMAFION
All perscmnel workir►g have completed the certified 40 hour Osha hazardous
waste training course, and have beer► trained in the following objectives:
o Workers are aware of potential hazards they
may encotn►t,er.
a Knowledge and skills necessary to perform the
work with minimal risk to works health and safety.
o Fa►nf lfarizatlon with the Site Safety pian and
site-specs f is requirements.
The training plan for this site eneanpasses:
o Potential physical and chemical health hazards.
o Respiratory protection, rationale, use, maintenance
and fit testing.
o Protective clothing, use and maintenance.
o Entry, exit and decontamination procedures.
o Documentation and record keeping procedures,
4
