June 30, 1995
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Department
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
Re: Ekholm Property, 1702 Jackson Street, Escalon CA
Dear Ms. Turkatte,
In a letter mailed June 14, 1995, the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) presented several
questions regarding the soil vapor extraction (SVE) system at the subject
location. The letter was addressed to Mr. John Lane of Smith Environmental,
with a carbon copy directed to Clearwater Group Inc. (Clearwater). Clearwater
is currently responsible for operating and maintaining the SVE system.
For clarity, our responses correspond to numbered paragraphs in your letter
(see attachment).
Paragraph 2:
The SVE system as-built (Figure 5 in the Quarterly Monitoring Report dated
May 14, 1995) has been updated to reflect the piping configuration and
monitoring ports in the system. A schematic diagram of the system is also
attached, per your request.
Paragraph 3:
Clearwater removed the carbon from the system on March 16, 1995 and left
the system shut down until March 22. On March 22, wells VW-1, VW-2, and
VW-3 were connected to the system at the request of PHS/EHD. The system
was started up long enough to test each well individually and to sample
effluent (Table 2.)
1125 Atlantic Avenue•Suite 102•Alameda•California•94501 •(510)337-8730•Fax(510)523-0984
