The tanks
size and contents wire: one 550-gallon diesel; one 350-gallon waste oil; and four gasoline tanks
(two 2,900-gallon, one 4,00()-gallon, and one 14,000-gallon capacity). Analysis of soil samples
collected during tank removal indicated gasoline had impacted the soil and perhaps also to
groundwater. Diesel impact to the soil is coaf ed to approximately the first 13-feet below
surface grade. Subsequent investigations included the installation of six soil borings and one
monitoring well for collection of soil and groundwater samples. Analysis of groundwater
samples collected from the monitoring well indicate that gasoline has impacted groundwater.
PROPOSED REMEDIAL ACTION
To Airther assess the groundwater impact at the site three additional monitoring wells will be
installed in the vicinity of the former gasoline tanks. Due to the location of the property
excavation of the gasoline impacted soils is the lust feasible remedial, option, therefore, three
vapor walls will be installer{to evaluate the potential of vapor exuaction as a rernediation option.
In the area of the former diesel and waste oil tanks the; recommended remediation optkm is
excavation due to the ineffectiveness of vapor extraction for dieseUwaste oil impacted soils. The
noise, visual, traffic and odor impact to the community is expected to last approximaWy one
week. Depending upon the contaminant levels, the pail will be bioremediated on site under
permit from the Regional Air Board, or disposed of by State-licenscd landfill or disposal Fac7ity.
The excavation will be backfilled with clean fill or remediated 561 is accordance with City and
County regulations. Perimeter fencing will remain in plax until all physical dangers are
mitigated.
