The tanks
size and contents were: one 550-gallon diesel; one 350-gallon waste oil; and four gasoline tanks
(two 2,000-gallon, one 4,000-gallon,and one 10,000-gallon capacity). Analysis of soil samples
collected during tank removal indicated gasoline had impacted the soil and perhaps also the
groundwater. Dies$i impact to the soil is confined to approximately the first 134M below
surface grade. Subsequent investigations included the installation of sic soil borings wW one
nrnonitcuing well for collecdon of soil and groundwater samples. Analysis of groundwater
samples collected from the monitoring well indicate that gasoline hes impacted groundwater.
PROPOSED REMEDIAL ACTION
To further assess the groundwater impact at the site three additional monitoring wells will be
installed in the vicinity of the former gasoline tanks. Due to the location of the property
excavation of the gasoline impacted soils is the least feasible remedial option, tliuefore, three
vapor wells will be installed to evaluate the potential of vapor exu Ution as a remediation option.
In the area of the former diesel and waste oil, tanks the recommended remediation option is
excavation due to the ineffectiveness of vapor extraction for diesel/waste oil impacted sails. The
noise, visual, traffie and odor impact to the community is expected to last a"roximaWy one
week. Depending upon the contaminant levels, the soil will be blvremedisted on site under
permit from the Regional Air Board,or disposed of by Statc-licensed landfill or disposal facility.
The excavation will be backfUW with clean fill or remediated soil in accordance with City and
County regulations. Perimeter fencing will remain in place until all physical dangers are
mit .ted.
