1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> This report is being submitted on behalf of Mrs Margaret Ekholm to summarize the results of the <br /> subsurface soil investigation requested by the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, <br /> Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD), at 1702 Jackson Street, Escalon, California (Figure 1) <br /> ' This report also recommends further Phase II soil and water investigation activities and activities to <br /> evaluate site remediation All work performed and work proposed will follow the December 6, 1991 <br /> Underground Storage Tank Clean Up Fund for Future Reimbursement guidelines <br /> 1 On April 17, 1991, six underground (u/g) storage tanks were removed from the project site by <br /> RESNA Industries The u/g tanks consisted of one 550-gallon diesel tank, two 2,000-gallon gasoline <br /> tanks, one 4,000-gallon gasoline tank, one 10,000-gallon gasoline tank, and one 350-gallon waste oil <br /> tank Soil samples were collected in accordance with SJCEHD guidelines and analyzed for one or <br /> more of the following, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> as gasoline (TPHG), total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHD), organic lead, and the metals <br /> cadmium, chromium, lead, and zinc, by Sequoia Analytical Laboratories, Inc , utilizing appropriate <br /> EPA and DHS methodologies Figure 2 shows the former locations of the tanks and the sampling <br /> points The analytical results are summarized on Table 1 The presence of elevated concentrations <br /> of hydrocarbons in the soil samples collected from beneath the gasoline and diesel tanks indicated <br /> further investigation was necessary to determine the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination <br /> at the protect site <br /> A preliminary report/workplan for the investigation was submitted to the SJCEHD and the Central <br /> Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) on August 14, 1991 The workplan was <br /> approved with no modifications and the project was placed into the Local UST Oversight Program by <br /> the SJCEHD on September 16, 1991 (SJCEHD correspondence September 11, 1991) <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND G OUND TECHNICAL DATA <br /> 2.1 Name and Address of Contact Person: <br /> Contact Person Mrs Margaret Ekholm <br /> ' P O Box 247 <br /> Escalon, CA 95320 <br /> R-042992 TJL I <br />
