I
CLEARWATER
' flow was toward the west at an approximate adient of 0 5% 0 005 feet foot In the
PP ' ( feet/foot)
western portion of the site, groundwater flow was toward the south at an
' approximate gradient of 0 15% (0.0015 feet/foot) Depth to water measurements and
wellhead elevation data, used to estimate groundwater flow directions, are
' presented on Table 1 Groundwater elevation contours are shown on Figure 3
4.2 Groundwater Sample Analytical Results
' Neither TPHg nor BTEX compounds were detected in concentrations exceeding
method detection limits in groundwater samples collected from any of the four
monitoring wells. A summary of groundwater elevations and analytical results is
presented on Table 1 Hydrocarbon concentrations are displayed graphically on
Figure 4 A copy of the laboratory reports and chain-of-custody forms are attached as
' Appendix B
' 5.0 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM OPERATION
5.1 Soil Vapor Extraction System Installation and Start-up
The soil vapor extraction system was installed in February 1995 The system initially
consisted of y Y
• A moisture P
separator and articulate filter
' • Two 1000-pound vessels of granular activated carbon (GAC) connected m series
• A vacuum blower rated at 200 feet per minute (cfrn)
• Wells VW-4 and VW-5 connected to the system by 2-inch-diameter PVC piping
' Soil vapor extraction commenced on February 9, 1995 from VW-4 and VW-5 only
The vapor extraction system operated continuously until March 16, 1995, when it
' was shut down to add VW-1, VW-2 and VW-3 to the vapor treatment stream, as
requested by PHS/EHD. VW-1, VW-2, and VW-3 were brought on-lune in order to
collect the information necessary to assess the effectiveness of the wells.
The GAC units were removed from the system, permission to run the system
without the carbon was granted verbally by the SJWAPCD on April 19, 1995. The
system was restarted on April 20, 1995 and has been operating continuously (using
all five vapor wells) since that date.
1
D-102 1Q95 3 August 31,1995
O
